# How Bonuses Work

> Bonuses are a way to give customers extra usage on limit features.

You can use bonuses to...

* Reward customers
* Offer Promotions
* Alleviate customer support issues
* More...

<Note>Bonuses can only be granted on limit features whose usage is tracked in PriceOS.</Note>

## How Bonuses Work

There are two important rules that define how bonuses behave.

### 1. Bonuses do not reset

Bonuses are <b>one-time allocations</b>, not recurring allowances.

If a customer receives 25 bonus credits, they have <b>25 total bonus credits</b> — not 25 per month.

Bonuses remain available until they are used (or expire, if an expiration date is set).

### 2. Bonuses are only used after the base limit is exhausted

Bonus credits are consumed <b>only when a customer exceeds their standard plan limit</b>.

As long as usage stays within the base allowance, bonuses remain untouched.

## Bonus Example

To drive the point home, let's take an example where...

* We have a limit feature for "credits" which has a monthly limit of 100
* A customer receives a 50-credit bonus with no expiration

### Month 1

Usage: 50 credits

* Base credits used: 50
* Bonus credits used: 0
* Remaining bonus credits: 50

(Bonuses are not touched because the base limit wasn’t exceeded.)

### Month 2

Usage: 120 credits

* Base credits used: 100
* Bonus credits used: 20
* Remaining bonus credits: 30

(Only the overage — 120 − 100 = 20 — is deducted from the bonus.)

### Month 3

Usage resets to 0 (new billing period)

The customer now has:

* 100 base credits (new month)
* 30 remaining bonus credits
